Antique French Sterling Silver Dish Plate,<br>Doutre-Roussel<br>, Master Silversmith, Paris<br>T<br>his exquisite sterling silver plate has a wide, exquisitely designed border, or “<br>marli<br>”, with a motif of stylized leaves on a<br>guillochis<br>background ringed by an edge of beading.  The bottom bears the French “<br>Minerve<br>Premier<br>Titre<br>” hallmark, indicating the highest quality of French sterling silver (950/1000), used in Paris since 1838. It also bears the maker’s mark consisting of the initials “D.” and “R.” above a domino with a double-two and the word “Paris” surrounded by two stars, the mark of<br>Claude<br>Doutre-Roussel<br>, master silversmith in Paris, located from 1895 in the<br>rue<br>Vieille<br>-du-Temple<br>in the<br>Marais<br>district of Paris.
