Antique Victorian 10K Rose Gold Locket Pendant W/ Un-carved Red, White & Black Agates
This is a very heavy, well-made antique locket with many decorative elements including graduated granules on the sides, wide gold ribbon scrollwork on top flanking a hinged stirrup-and-ring bail, and an un-carved banded agate on each side - one with black over white and one russet-orange over white. The intention would have been to relief- or intaglio-carve a monogram, cameo or some other meaningful device into the agates, and the locket used to hold a photo and/or a lock of hair or some other keepsake, often as a mourning locket in remembrance of a lost loved-one. A lovely shade of rose gold, the locket opens easily from the bottom and is in excellent condition, tests positive for 10k gold, measures 1 9/16 x 13/16-inches and weighs 8.9 grams.
